Real estate is often about transitions; leaving a home one has settled into to downsize, upsize or move to a new area.

When selling, one is concerned with what to keep, what to let go of, and transferring belongings. Preparing the home can take weeks; does it need fresh paint? Are the systems updated; has the furnace been serviced, is the roof in good order, is the electrical safe? It is often hard to let go of a home as one has seen it, and prepare it for all of the different kinds of people that might be interested. That said, the more people a home appeals to, the better chance of getting a great price.

Finding a home is also a challenge; empty nesters may have a lot of options, while those starting the journey with children are interested in schools, commuting to work and an appealing neighborhood.
